At 1,152' Flagg Mountain is one of the southernmost mountains along the eastern seaboard above 1,000'. It's the symbolic southern terminus of the Appalchian Mountain Trail (unofficial acronym) stretching north to Cap Gaspe', Quebec, Canada, and even further north across the St. Lawrence Seaway to Newfoundland's Appalachian Mountains and an additional 500 miles of trail! For hikers going north from Key West, FL, on the Eastern Continental Trail or from the Alabama/Florida state line to New York state on the Great Eastern Trail, Flagg Mtn. is the first mountain they'll come to. Or if walking south it's the last mountain they'll cross. AHTS is also working on the Coosa Wildlife Management Area which was recently purchased by Forever Wild so that we can connect Flagg to the Coosa River.
Trail Info:
4-mile loop trail with yellow blazes. Connector trail to a spring for water and connectors that will eventually connect the Pinhoti Trail and Coosa River.

From Kellys Cross Roads on Highway 22 between Rockford and and Verbena, take CR 29 north. Go Left on CR 16, past house and Go Right on dirt road known locally as CCC Camp Rd. Sign has been knocked down but may be visible at base of tree with our yellow blazes. Look for the Flagg Mountain signs and the yellow blaze. On top of Flagg Mtn. is a locked gate on the approach road to the observation tower. Call Pete Rodgers at 256-245-2689 to visit the tower and cabins under renovation. Hikers may access this property only on hiking trails and must stay away from all buildings.
